9:10 AM CASE STUDY: A Framework to Measure Success: Aligning the Impact of Learning Spaces with Cultural Change
When analysing the impact of new learning spaces, a significant challenge is presented to separate the space itself from the expertise of academics and students inhabiting the space as a driver of improved learning outcomes. Kris Ryan explores a framework implemented to consider the new Learning and Teaching Building at Monash University and its impact to learning and teaching across multiple disciplines.
This case study will consider
- The establishment of an agreed purpose of new learning spaces and identifying success criteria
- The identification of six broad metrics that measure success of formal study opportunities: student feedback, academic success, opportunities for authentic assessment, student resilience, student engagement, and academic opportunities.
- The impact of formal and informal space utilisation, with particular consideration of student background.
