1:50 PM Preparing for the Digital Age through Continuous and Proactive Innovations of New Learning Spaces

Over the last 5 years, there has been an extensive growth of modern world-class facilities within the Australian Catholic University (ACU). The Saint John Paul Building and Student Led Clinics are great examples of ongoing leadership in implementing better teaching and learning initiatives. This in turn has led to the university’s innovative $32 million capital project- The Mercy Building- which will be discussed by the Associate Vice Chancellor, Professor Jim Nyland. Drawing from his extensive background in higher education, his session will highlight:

  • Evaluating the successes of existing and transformed learning environments
  • Using learning analytics to improve learning space designs and pedagogies
  • The Mercy Building as a strategic direction to improve student engagement
  • Preparing academic stakeholders right from the beginning through consultations and workshops
  • Co-location of facilities with strategic partners to achieve the best teaching and learning outcomes
